Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Tignanello 'Marchese Antinori' Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2014

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Notes: The Riserva is only produced from the finest grapes sourced from proprietary vineyards at the Tenuta Tignanello estate, located in the township of Mercatale Val di Pesa in the Chianti Classico appellation production zone. Tasting Profile: An intense ruby red in color, the 2014 Marchese Antinori reveals a floral nose with notes of ripe cherries, spices and toasted oak. On the palate, the wine is supple and balanced with red fruit notes that linger on the finish.

The family estate, Palazzo Antinori, was purchased in Tuscany in 1506, and later that century, banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori began to produce the wines made there commercially. Generations later, in 1928, Marquis Niccolò Antinori officially created the Villa Antinori brand, with the intention of producing an elegant Chianti fit for longevity. The wine was soon found in the cellars and on the tables of of some of the most prestigious houses, restaurants and hotels. In 1931, Villa Antinori began producing a white wine from Trebbiano, and in the 1980s, Chardonnay was added to the blend for elegance. In 2001, the estate added the production of Super Tuscans to their growing portfolio. In addition to table wines, Villa Antinori also produces sparkling wines, grappa and olive oil.  Read less
