Marcassin Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Lambing Barn Three Sisters Vineyard 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 96 The 2000 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge, my candidate for a DRC Richebourg on steroids vote, possesses the extraordinary aromatics that this vineyard routinely produces. The blueberry, blackberry, forest floor, mushroom, and gamy notes are all offered in a provocative smorgasbord of aromas. There is tremendous fruit intensity, medium to full body, outstanding acid levels, and a long, textured, spectacular finish. It is a compelling Pinot Noir to drink over the next 7-8 years. Wine Tasting Notes Our Pinot Noir shows aromas of Bing cherry, black raspberry, molasses, flint, dried herbs and rhubarb. Cherry, dried herbs, tobacco and pencil shaving mingle on the palate. Focused bright acidity highlights the cooler growing season and frames the silky texture of this vintage.

The name, meaning “wild boar” is also the name of the 20-acre vineyard where the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes for her wines are grown. Two-thirds of the winery’s production is Pinot Noir. Production is limited to 2,500 to 3,000 cases a year, with the majority of the bottles sold only to exclusive mailing list members (there is an extensive wait list to receive them). The wines typically start at around $125 a bottle to the mailing list and sell for many more times that at auction. Until 2011, the wine itself was produced at Turley’s Martinelli winery in the Russian River Valley, but are now produced solely at Marcassin.  Read less
