Winemaker's Notes:

The winemaking philosophy is simple: great vineyards, meticulously farmed, limited yield, long hang time and natural yeast. She approaches every project with these same priorities.

The name, meaning “wild boar” is also the name of the 20-acre vineyard where the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes for her wines are grown. Two-thirds of the winery’s production is Pinot Noir. Production is limited to 2,500 to 3,000 cases a year, with the majority of the bottles sold only to exclusive mailing list members (there is an extensive wait list to receive them). The wines typically start at around $125 a bottle to the mailing list and sell for many more times that at auction. Until 2011, the wine itself was produced at Turley’s Martinelli winery in the Russian River Valley, but are now produced solely at Marcassin.  Read less

The plum/ruby-colored, earthy, meaty, smoky 2001 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard possesses Morey-St.-Denis-like characteristics of plums, mushrooms, forest floor, and flowers. The 2001 Pinot Noir Three Sisters Vineyard tastes as if it is a grand cru from the Cote de Nuits commune of Morey-St.-Denis. Sweet black cherries intermixed with autumnal compost and earth notes jump from the glass of this expansive, rich, full-bodie... Robert Parker.
