What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Winemakers Notes

The 1999 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard is less flamboyant than the ostentatious Blue Slide cuvee. Reviews

Rating: 86/100 - As reviewed by The Wine Messenger in Issue 15, 3rd Quarter, 2004 Surprisingly, this was already browning though the nose does not seem unduly advanced as it's both elegant and sweet. The medium full flavors offer excellent intensity, average complexity and a lot of warmth on the finish, which is somewhat marred by a good deal of rather prickly acidity. While this is certainly drinkable, it's a disjointed wine at present.
