What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Winemakers Notes

From the Brunate vineyard lower down the La Morra slopes towards CannubiBoschis, this is a fuller, denser Barolo expression, traditionally made incement and old slavonian botte, complete with sandalwood notes on the nose. Onthe palate, the twenty year old vines show their pedigree with rounder, suppler, if no-less impressive tannins, balanced by some broad black savouryfruit.
(David Berry Green, BBR Buyer)

Editorial Reviews

40 day fermentation/maceration then 2 years in botte
Dark and earthy on the nose with incipient hints of mushroom, slight confiture of black raspberry and nuanced notes of limestone and smoke 2+
Packed in the mouth with a rich matte feel supported by bright acids and fine ripe tannins 3
A bit tight at first yet layered in the mouth with subtle notes of dried fruits, slightly roasted strawberry, red berries a touch of vegetal freshness, still a bit closed but with obvious richness 3
Very clean and precise on the finish but still short at this point 2

Deep and filled with roses, this begins a bit monotone on the nose with hints of dry earth, sassafras and beet root. With air this gains a bit or a brownie edge, full of moist earth, hints of game and BO and plump, roasted strawberry. What begins as a lush, round, seductive mouthfeel turns even more polished with air revealing a touch of spice, white pepper and earth that lays like a blanket over the slightly bitter tannins and wonderfully integrated acidity. This is well balanced and fresh but turns just a touch muddied on the finish. 91pts

generous, layered wine. Sweet, ripe tannins provide a lovely bookend to this
rich, classic Barolo from the Brunate vineyard. Still somewhat closed, it is
likely to require at least a few years of bottle age.'
