What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Reviews

Rather orange-tinged in color, showing dried flowers and mushroom, with hints of blackberry. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a refined, pretty finish. Drink now through 2011. 950 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2003 Marcarini Barolo la Serra 750ml

"The 2003 Barolo La Serra seems to have fared less well under the scorching heat. It offers super-ripe red fruits, spices, flowers and herbs on a medium-bodied, somewhat compact frame. It offers good complexity but its overall balance is ultimately compromised by hard, green tannins that clamp down on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015." RP 10/07
