Vina Maquis:

The Hurtado family planted vineyards at the Viña Maquis Estate in the Colchagua Valley during the early 20th century. The original winery was built in 1927 by owner and engineer, Ignacio Hurtado, when he was just 23 years old. With rivers running on both sides of the estate, the Hurtado family knew this property was special: the vineyards were blessed with a temperate climate and rich soils. For nearly 60 years, Viña Maquis has cultivated grapes that were sold to renowned neighboring wineries. Twelve years ago, the Hurtado family invested in replanting estate with the finest red wine clones available in both Chile and France. In 2002, the family decided to make their own wine out of the terrific grapes in their own backyard. They built a gorgeous, state-of-the-art gravity flow winery and set out to make Maquis Lien, a "Super Chilean" blend using the vineyard’s best red grapes that express the story of that vintage. Even though Syrah is listed as the first varietal in the list in this blend, it doesn't smack you upside the head with fruit. The other varietals in the blend round it out, give it some depth and extra dimensions. The nose is wonderful. I don't know what exactly I'm smelling but I could snort it all evening. It's got something else beyond the usual blends I favor.

Solid, dark, acidic and tannic wine made from five red grapes. The nose deals cola, olive, leather and undefined saucy aromas, which are backed by flavors of red fruits, herbs and olive. Finishes with a wave of red fruit flavor but also tough, grabby... Wine Enthusiast. A Proprietary Blend wine from in Chile. 2006 Maquis Lien 750ml
