What to Expect

Barbera is one of the classic Grapes of Italy's Piedmont region, though it is popular throughout much of Northwest Italy and has gained a following in California. Searing acidity has been a trait of Barbera though modern viticultural techniques and warmer regions have tamed the acidity, resulting in medium-bodied wines with bright, red fruit tones that feature hints of violets, earth and plum with just a whisper of tannin.

Winemakers Notes

Barbera, the most widely planted variety in Italy, has traditionally been the most popular red Italian varietal here in California. Barbera has excellent color and maintains its balancing acidity in both warmer and cooler climates. Our Barbera, from cool Los Alamos, ripens late and produces a dark, wild cherry-tinged wine with bright acids and soft tannins. This wine was aged for two years in aged French oak barrels for added smoothness and character.

I really enjoyed this earthy wine with a velvety texture that makes it so smooth with a nice lingering finish. It's probably considered a food wine but I could really enjoy this one on its own as well. And the price is right!
