Man Vintners Pinotage 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine is Man's take on South Africa's indigenous grape variety. It's bold and juicy with red-berry fruit flavours and a touch of sweet oak spice. Pinotage goes well with a wide range of foods. It's the only wine for eel and it's the perfect complement to a steaming bowl of 'roo stew. This is deep ruby red in the glass with a beguiling nose of strawberries and black cherries, and a subtle hint of Pinotage's trademark smoky complexity. Juicy and fresh on the palate, this wine is extremely moreish.

MAN Vintners:
This MAN thing began with three friends and an idea: to make a wine that we ourselves would love to buy. Good quality, excellent value, and cool packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us to action. What do we call it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the initials of our wives. (We each have one, that is.) Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us to action. What do we call it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the initials of our wives. (We each have one, that is.) So that is how we explained to Marie, Anette, and Nicky that we were going to be "busy" most weekends. It's for you! we told them. Could've slapped on something cute and furry but the world doesn't need another critter label. We are trying to do something different. It's the WINES we're excited about! Bold and gutsy, reflecting our extreme terroir. Grape growing in the Perdeberg Hills is not for wimps. There is little rainfall, so you have to be in tune with your vineyards. Too much crop or too much stress and you end up with grapes that can't ripen, or worse. But this is grape growing heaven for generations of our farmers. There are no fat, lazy bloated grapes here. Medium red. Dark berries, plum and a whiff of woodsmoke on the nose. At once silky and juicy, with good intensity to the plum and mocha flavors. Finishes broad, with a fine dusting of tannins and a hint of chocolate.

Dark fruit drives this wine, as aromas and flavors of rich black berry, plum and cherry laced with licorice root flood the senses. Round and full in the mouth but balanced with medium acidity that leads through the clean, lively finish. Drink now.
