Man Vintners Chenin Blanc 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine has a unique delicious tangy character that goes well with a lot of food and makes for an excellent aperitif. In South Africa we say "moreish"; it is an excellent third date wine. It has lively aromas of tropical fruits and melon, with crisp, bold citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Serve chilled

Sourced from various vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region. Mostly un-irrigated, older (15 years+), bush-vine (un-trellised) vineyards with low yields of 6,5 tons/ha. Only free-run juice used in producing this wine. After settling the must was inoculated and allowed to ferment over 20 days in stainless steel tanks at an average fermentation temperature of 13° centigrade. The wine was left on its lees until bottling for richer mouth-feel.

MAN Vintners:
This MAN thing began with three friends and an idea: to make a wine that we ourselves would love to buy. Good quality, excellent value, and cool packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us to action. What do we call it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the initials of our wives. (We each have one, that is.) So that is how we explained to Marie, Anette, and Nicky that we were going to be "busy" most weekends. It's for you! we told them. Could've slapped on something cute and furry but the world doesn't need another critter label. We are trying to do something different. It's the WINES we're excited about! Bold and gutsy, reflecting our extreme terroir. Grape growing in the Perdeberg Hills is not for wimps. There is little rainfall, so you have to be in tune with your vineyards. Too much crop or too much stress and you end up with grapes that can't ripen, or worse. But this is grape growing heaven for generations of our farmers. There are no fat, lazy bloated grapes here. Beautiful citrus flavors with excellent acidity making this wine very crisp and posessing a body that won't quit.
