Man O' War Vineyards Pinot Gris Auckland 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

* 4 Stars, Decanter March 2011 * Two clones were hand harvested off Ponui Island, the Te Kawau clone was slightly crushed and the juice fined before racking to stainless steel for fermentation with cultured yeast and the St. Helena clone which was whole bunch pressed and fermented on solids in 100% new oak. Making up 20% of the blend, the St. Helena clone was exceptionally ripe and clean and contributes good fruit expression and tannin structure while the Te Kawau is more in the fresh herb spectrum and adds freshness. Fresh herbs and sweet vanilla with notes of canned apricots and creaming soda lead into a succulent mid palate. Vibrant and fresh with well balanced natural sweetness and both fruit and barrel tannins contributing length. This wine is bottled and protected under screw cap as we believe it is the best closure for quality wine.

Located at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, in New Zealand’s Hauraki Gulf, Man O’ War boasts a pristine and beautiful spread of coastal hillsides with high cliffs and stunning beaches. This rugged and beautiful coastline was “Discovered” in 1769 by Captain James Cook, and today we take responsibility for maintaining its beauty and integrity for future generations. Under our family’s stewardship for almost 30 years we first introduced grapes to Man O’War in 1993, firm in the belief that world class wines could be produced here. Since then we have carefully selected and developed almost 90 individual pockets of Man O’ War’s hillsides for wine growing, each chosen for the unique and exceptional qualities they bring to our wines. Today 150 acres of vines are strategically placed around Man O’War’s 4500 acres, enhancing its intrinsic beauty. Meticulous design ensures that the distinct soil profile and microclimate of each block is used to best advantage with different rootstocks, clones and planting densities selected to match the specific terroir on offer. At Man O’War an exceptional and passionate team of people come together to bring you unique world class wines that reflect the distinctive treasure of land from which they come. Our winemaking team possesses broad and extensive experience and we pride ourselves on fusing classic Old World techniques with innovative New World ideas. Man O’ War wines are presented in two collections that represent our hallmark elegance, balance and texture. Our Flagship Black Label Range of Gravestone Sauvignon Semillon, Valhalla Chardonnay, Dreadnought Syrah and Ironclad Bordeaux Blend convey layers of complexity, structure and ageing potential. Each we have lovingly named to reflect their history and exceptional sense of place. While our White Label range expresses varietal character and fruit vibrancy in a classical style. Man O’ War has always charted its own course and we hope you will find pleasure in our wines and join us on our journey. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
