Softer than some, with a lighter body and tannins though still big and fruity. Black cherry predominates for me. Pairs with our Panacea Black Maduro Robusto or Twisted Hitch. See the Virginia Wine and Cigar Trail for more

The cool, dry climate of Patagonia brings a different character to Malbec than does the high-altitude region of Mendoza to the north. Patagonian Malbec has brighter fruit flavors; more supple with fresh acidity. This wine from the Neuquen region of Patagonia, is one third aged in French oak barrels for one year, adding dimension to the black plum, black cherry fruit. Wine Spectator columnist Matt Kramer, for his column in the Portland Oregonian said about the 2009 "Ruta 22 Malbec delivers the characteristic Patagonian quality of a bright, crisp acidity allied with a lovely depth of black cherry and plum fruitiness... superb red wine for the money". And The Wine Spectator called this 2010 "Elegant yet focused, with a solid core of raspberry and crushed plum fruit framed by grilled herbs, spice and a fine minerality that carries the stony finish. An all-season red. Drink now."
