Maipe Reserve Bonarda Argentina 2012

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

Warm mocha notes hit you first on the nose, followed by rich black cherry and plum notes. Super peppery. It gets several extra months of oak aging compared to their regular Bonarda, but the wine maintains the bright acidity and vibrant red fruit characteristics for which the grape is famous. Perfect with barbecue or other rich, savory meat dishes.

Ripe and fleshy, with roasted black plum, spice, mocha and smoke notes. Drink now.

The 2012 Bonarda Old Vine Reserve is about as good an example of this varietal that one will find. Its saturated purple color is accompanied by an exceptional bouquet of mulberry jam, spring flowers and loads of berry fruit. Although it was aged 12 months in French oak, there is no hint of oak, only super fruit, medium to full body, and a terrific mouthfeel as well as aromatics. This crowd-pleaser should drink nicely for another 2–3 years.
