Maipe Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza Chakana Wines 2012

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Maipe is produced in a state-of-the-art winery, Chakana winery, founded by Juan Pelizzatti in 2002. Juan did not know it at the time but the company was founded on the same day the Chakana was celebrated on the Andes highlands; the day that the Southern Cross (the Chakana for the Inca people) becomes vertical in the night Andean sky. This Maipe Cabernet is sourced from estate vineyards at 3,000 feet above sea level from mature vines averaging 35 years of age. Working with renowned international wine consultant Alberto Antonini, the grapes are carefully selected, fermented in stainless steel over 14 days and then 10% is aged in American oak for 3 months. Robert Parker recently visited and tasted through the estate's wines. He tweeted "Killer cabernet sauvignon & malbec-Argentina-2012 Maipe/Mendoza-if this had Napa Valley on the label,it would sell for $50+-but is $15" We think he's right on the money!
