Maipe Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Argentina may be renowned for its Malbec; however, to my delight, after tasting the 2005 and now the 2007 vintage, I am praying they do not pull up any Cabernet vines! Maipe also makes excellent Malbec and Bonarda, but their Cabernet is one of those rare finds in the wine world mdash; try a bottle and then stock up with a case. This red has everything yoursquo;d find in a $20 California offering. Plush, fruit-forward, but with fresh herbs, licorice and vanilla adding to the complexity mdash; really mind-boggling how Maipe can produce such depth in a wine at this price point.

From Mendoza, blackberry flavors open up to a finely textured red; the quality of this wine is exceptional for the price.

A simple and flavorful blend of ripe strawberry and cinnamon aromas directs this muscular cabernet to a steak.

Argentinian reds are produced to be consumed young while still vibrant; Maipe has produced a Cabernet Sauvignon that captures the essence of bright fruit and spice and characterizes this delicious style. Bright fruit vanilla and black cherry round out this exceptionally earthy effort.

These high altitude Cabernet vineyards, literally at the foot the Andes Mountains, make a wine with ripe blueberry, black currant, and dark chocolate flavors and hints of tobacco and smoke. Itrsquo;s hard to find a great Cab, let alone a wine under $10, that is as smooth and generous as this one.

Fresh and open with cherry plum and roasted vanilla notes and a medium-weight finish. Drink now.

A consistently great value, this Argentine Cab has been a staff favorite for several vintages now. Bold, smoky flavor, loaded with cassis, blackberry and plum. Gripping tannins give this wine excellent structure; perfect for pairing with red meat or hearty pasta dishes.
