This wine needs to breath. For a wine that is supposed to be an everyday wine I've been finding that allowing it to breath at least an hour is necessary. The following is my initial reaction. This is a juicy wine. There is a lot of fruit but it does not seem to have any structure. From the aroma that is floral and fruity I'd expect there to be some Viognier in the wine but I can't tell for sure. Finish is soft and medium length.

No. 72 on WS top 100 list of 2009. Smooth and lush. fairly rich and textured plum and blueberry. Very dark in the glass.

Nose opens to sour socks, watermellon, dark cherry, currie, caramel and apple. Palate is savory and diverse, includes rasberry, plum, tobacco, pepper, spice, crème brule, citrus, hickory smoke, and currie. After two hours, berry and cola become dominant in both nose and palette. Mild tannins and medium finish. Becomes less attractive with time. Open and drink in the first hour and a half.

Excellent wine. Dark and inky in color, with a spicy black-berried aroma. Spice-box and some plum and currant in the palate, along with the black-berry. A nice finish, and a rich aftertaste. Had with rack of lamb and roasted potatoes.

Made by Charles Smith for Precept's Magnificent Wine Company line, this sports the black and white, block letter label familiar to fans of House Wine. Bursting with fresh, tart, tasty berry fruit flavors, this effusive wine is front-loaded with flavor. It tails off gracefully, adding suggestions of pepper and earth and raw steak, before finishing with a crisp lick of raspberry. - P.G. On the lighter side, this is a supple style, with creamy blueberry and white pepper flavors. Lingers easily. Drink now through 2015. 805 cases made. -HS The 2008 The Originals Syrah was sourced from the Phil Lane Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, a favorite stomping ground for Charles Smith. The Magnificent Wine Company Syrah Columbia Valley 2007 750ML

Before he founded his K Vintners winery in 2001, Charles Smith was managing Scandinavian rock bands out of Copenhagen. Since then he's been a whirlwind of winemaking and smart marketing - who else puts skulls and a "kung fu girl" on their labels? Magnificent Wine Company is Smith's second label - he sold the brand a few years ago but is still winemaker. Sourced from various Columbia Valley vineyards, this is 100 percent Syrah.

Smooth, polished, generous and wide-open in texture, with gorgeous plum and blueberry fruit getting added nuances from hints of Indian spices. The finish lingers effortlessly. Drink now through 2016.

As thick as blueberry pie, this big-shouldered syrah has plenty of chewy oak and plummy fruit. For all its exuberance, a mineral through line keeps the wine on track. Serve with sausages off the grill.
