Magnificat Red Blend Napa Valley Franciscan 2014

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Magnificat is one of the original Napa Valley Meritage wines. First created by winemaking legend, the late Andre Tchelistcheff. It's a harmonious "composition" of Bordeaux varietal grapes, hence the name which pays tribute to another famous "composition" by J.S. Bach. Full of balck cherry, plum and spice flavors this rich Cab-based beauty is a wine with baroque complexity and timeless appeal. From the excellent 2014 vintage this blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 2% Petite Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc aged 20 months in oak barrels, 70% new. It scored 95 points in Tasting Panel Magazine who said "The royal carmine hue makes this wine look all the more stately. First introduced in 1985, this Meritage blend continues to cast a spell and blends all five Bordeaux grape varieties. The mélange consists of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cab Franc from lots off the 240-acre Oakville Franciscan Estate vineyard. The wine spent 20 months in oak. The aromas triggered a mountain forest: sage, jasmine, truffle and cherry wood. I salute this particular vintage for its fleshy, satiny texture with a firm structure. Flavors are layered with cinnamon, lavender, blueberry-boysenberry and caramel-mocha coffee."

The ancient history linked to Podere San Giorgio is witnessed by a 1500 tower and a cellar of the same period. The wine farm was purchased in 1978 by the milanese family Perdomini from the former owners Marchesi Sauli from Genova. The Perdomini family has completely restored the farm and has brought it to the ancient splendor. Now it is one of the most interesting and stimulating enterprises in the Oltrepo Pavese territory. Many improvements have been made in the vineyard and in the premises. With the help of the research staff of Università degli Studi di Milano, the 30 hectares of vineyards have been substituted with new plants. Talking about the premises, an important building has been made in the old style of the house, which holds all the new plants for wine making, the new offices, the new wine shop and wine bar. Oltrepo Pavese is located among the region of Lombardy, Piemonte , Liguria and Emilia Romagna. It is a piece of paradise, dedicated to wine growing and wine culture, where the climate is mild and hilly. Here, history and tradition meet in the art of wine growing. Here time flows slowly in contrast to the hectic rhythms of everyday life. Oltrepo Pavese is all these things and more… You will find all these emotions every time you taste an Oltrepo Pavese wine Read less

Full of balck cherry, plum and spice flavors this rich Cab-based beauty is a wine with baroque complexity and timeless appeal. From the amazing 2012 vintage this blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It scored 95 points in Tasting Panel Magazine who said "Aged for 20 months in 70% new oak, this is one of California's original Meritage blends, a wine produced since 1985 - and one of my all-time favorites. The 73% Cabernet Sauvignon (followed by Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc) is named for Bach's masterpiece. Dark fruit and dry coffee tannins align with its fine acidity which brighten and livens the nose and palate. An underlying earthiness with plum and cassis balances it out. Still so youthful - she will age with grace."
