Magalhaes Vintage Porto 2000

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of port from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/86784 for £12.Port wine is from the Douro valley in northern Portugal and takes its name from the City of Oporto at the mouth of that river. It is a fortified wine because brandy is added to arrest the fermentation process. My bottle was made at Quinta do Silval,a small family concern in this area who use the Magalhaes name of the owner on some of their cuvees of port My bottle is a blend of touriga nacional, touriga franca and tinto roriz grapes although I do not know in what proportions Their 2000 vintage port was a limited production run of 5,390 bottles and mine is number 33..I started my bottle last night with a plate of bread and cheese. It is a sweet wine and there is plenty of a plum and cherry style fruit and also of dates and raisins. It is 20.5% ABV but the alchol is not overpowering like with some ports I have had. This is a fairly smooth port. Decanter magazine gave this a score of 98.

The house on the estate is now used as an upmarket hotel and restaurant. Read less
