Madiran Pierre Laplace(2003)

A blend of 60% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is a dark and inky red in color. Some plum and black cherry on the nose, but a little flat. On the palate it is very well-balanced (if a bit hollow) — strong tannins but also fruity with some plum, blueberry, and dark currant and some black olive

Madiran's can be rich and chunky and full of black fruit. This has that character but is much more lively than the typical tannic Madiran. The 20% of each Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon certainly contributes to this. Fresh on the palate.
