What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Editorial Reviews

With light oak and toast notes on the nose this starts off on the dark side but adds nice cherry pie fruit tones on the palate that are soft and supple. there's a touch of vanilla and baking spice on the backend before the black cherry fruit powers through on the medium length finish. This lacks some detail but makes up for it with its balanced depth of fruit. 87pts

Reviews

A lovely enjoyable Pinot Noir, especially when someone else buys it for you. I have a hard time spending this much on wines, but for Pinot Noirs, you about have to to get one you really like.

I'm not a pinot drinker, but I'm a MacMurray Ranch Pinot drinker! It's fantastic and it tastes bigger than it's price tag. I have also served this at dinner parties and this is the wine that everyone raves about.

MacMurray Ranch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir possesses an expressive fruit character, exhibiting rich aromas of red, blue and black fruits of cherry, ripe blueberries and dark current. The flavors are melded together with earthy notes, balanced perfectly with the nuance of soft vanilla from the oak aging.
