Macmurray Ranch Central Coast 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

DESCRIPTION: MacMurray Ranch Central Coast Pinot Noir possesses an expressive fruit character, exhibiting bright aromas of blue and red fruits of cherry, ripe blueberries and dark current. The flavors are melded together with earthy notes, balanced perfectly with the nuance of sweet vanilla. Detailed Winemaker's Notes WINEMAKING NOTES: Winemaker: Susan Doyle Grapes from premier Central Coast vineyards including Olson Ranch in the Santa Lucia Highlands contributed to the final blend of this wine. The grapes were harvested at the peak of ripeness during September through mid-October, during the early morning, to ensure the fruit was kept cool for fermentation. The grapes were de-stemmed and cold soaked prior to fermentation for optimal extraction of color and flavor. A percentage of the must underwent natural fermentation and the remainder was inoculated with a mixture of Burgundian yeast strains for complexity, mouth-feel and depth of flavor. The wine completed malolactic fermentation in the barrel. VITICULTURAL NOTES: The 2006 growing season began with a very wet winter that lasted through bloom, followed by mild weather up to mid-July. The second part of July saw very warm weather, but the cooling coastal fog rolled back into the area and brought relief. The ripening period of August through September was ideal, with moderate temperatures and plenty of sun to gently ripen the fruit. Harvest began in mid-September and was completed by mid-October. Overall, the 2006 vintage was one of the best in many years, with sound, ripe fruit and very few defects in the crop. TASTE PROFILE: California’s Central Coast is an up and coming growing region for Pinot Noir because of its climate and soil. MacMurray Ranch crafts wines from this region with elegance, finesse and a distinctive sense of place. FINISHED WINE: Grape Source: Central Coast Varietal Content: Pinot Noir Titratable Acidity: 0.56 Residual Sugar: 0.25 Alcohol: 13.8 pH: 3.72
