More than any other variety, Pinot Noir has the ability to translate place.  To convey the wisdom of its soil, the tenor of its climate, the emotion of its caretakers.  At its clearest expression, Pinot is a calling to consider what a wine can be. Our calling is to make the best Pinot Noir. MacMurray Estate Vineyards is deeply rooted in Sonoma County. Our namesake vineyard, MacMurray Ranch, has been a farmstead since the 1850s, farmed by the Porter family until actor Fred MacMurray bought the ranch in 1941. Fred embraced the rancher’s lifestyle, raising prize-winning cattle and farming crops here for decades, while his children rode horses through the hills. Fred’s daughter—the actress, screenwriter and activist Kate MacMurray—retains an indelible tie to the estate, helping us share the heritage of our namesake vineyard, historic property and celebrated wine. Transformed into a world-class vineyard in 1996, MacMurray Ranch quickly became one of the Russian River Valley’s most acclaimed Pinot Noir vineyards.  Today, MacMurray Estate Vineyards has grown to encompass estate vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley and the Central Coast, but we continue to honor our roots and the history of the MacMurray Ranch. The original buildings have been faithfully restored, and the 1,500-acre property is home to old-growth oaks, Redwood trees and indigenous wildlife. Winemaker Boyd Morrison and his team craft our collection of Pinot Noir wines, beginning with our home vineyard and extending to several estate vineyard sites throughout the Russian River Valley and the Central Coast. Description: Indicative of its cool-climate region, our MacMurray Estate Vineyards Central Coast Pinot Noir opens with delicate aromas and flavors of cherry, raspberry and pomegranate, accented by hints of vanilla and toast and a silky mouthfeel. With time to breathe, this wine will display an excellent balance of flavor, acidity and texture. Viticulture Notes: ESTATE VINEYARD SOURCING The 2013 vintage on the Central Coast was outstanding, with neither excessive heat spikes nor cool stretches interfering with development. Fruit ripened evenly in these ideally moderate, dry conditions, building excellent ripeness and balance. The vintage has been compared to 2007, another year in which exceptionally high quality across vineyard blocks was noted. Wines from this vintage are showing expressive layers of ripe fruit flavors. This Pinot Noir was crafted almost entirely with fruit from our Olson Ranch, a spectacular vineyard in the Central Coast’s Santa Lucia Highlands appellation known for producing elegant, nuanced Pinot Noir. • Olson Ranch Vineyard: This phenomenal site is heavily influenced by the nearby Pacific Ocean, making this a cool and windy site characterized by clay loam soils over fractured limestone. Our Pinot Noir grapes grown here deliver classic, cool-climate Pinot flavors of red cherry and raspberry. Winemaking Notes: The grapes were destemmed, but not crushed, and cold soaked for two to five days to enhance the extraction of color and flavor. Mostly free run juice made it into this blend, with nearly half fermented in small, six- to ten-ton open-top fermentors. To enhance the natural aromas and flavors of this Pinot Noir, we fermented the lots slowly at temperatures ranging from 78°F to 80°F. This wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged on its lees to develop a smooth and rich mouthfeel. Titratable Acidity: 0.57g/100ml pH: 3.61 Alcohol Level: 14.8%
