Macari Chardonnay 2007

Member Review by LENNDEVOURS:

Pale straw colored with a faint greenish tinge, the nose brings Granny Smith apple, lemon-lime, minerals and an almost-sauvignon blanc-like grassy-herbal note.Medium bodied and fresh, there's more citrus and green apple here with plenty of acidity and a reasonably long, lemon and wet stone finish. This is a wine best enjoyed on a hot summer day, or with light seafood preparations.

With a nose that is somewhat reminiscent of sauvignon blanc, the Early Wine's aromas move from citrus to kiwi to peach and minerals. The palate is crackling with acidity - balancing gentle sweetness - with flavors of green apple, peach, minerals and citrus. This is a wine that Austrian-born winemaker Helmut Gangl made in the style of a “ungwein” ('young wine') from his homeland. It works just as well here. Trust me.

Much less acidity than the 2004, which makes the wine seem sweeter and slightly off balance. Almost reminds me of a halbtrocken kabinett riesling. Flavors match the nose, with a slightly lingering finish of minerals.

Clean, crisp white made 100% in stainless steel tanks. Vigorous swirling coaxes faint citrus and just-ripe pear aromas from the glass. Fresh and clean, the flavors are a little too simple and shallow, but are nicely balanced by acidity and minerality. A tart, kiwi-flavored finish is a highlight.

Stainless steel fermented, this wine is a perfect balance of fruit and acidity. It is clean & crisp, refreshing, yet satisfying with a long lingering minerally finish.

Toasty oak and slight butteriness compliment pear and fuji apple notes to make this bottle from North Fork and real winner. While the nose is reminiscent of a caramel drizzled pear, the palate remains firmly dry.
