The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.
Drank 1 bottle on 6/29/2011- good wine but would not search out specifically again.

Always one of the top wines in the appellation, the 2012 Saint Joseph les Granits is a blockbuster that needs to be snatched up by readers. I rated this 94 points on release, and it went screaming past that rating on this showing. Loaded with decadent cassis, blackberry, ground herbs, violets and leather-laced aromas and flavors, this beauty is full-bodied, low in acidity and has thrilling purity. It’s hard to resist now (and I see no reason to either), but it will evolve for 10–15 years.
Vivid purple. Fresh dark berries, pungent flowers and Asian spices on the highly perfumed nose. Silky and appealingly sweet, offering spicy black raspberry and cherry compote flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. Fine-grained tannins lend shape to the long spice- and smoke-tinged finish, with the cherry note echoing.
Most of the fruit comes from hillside vineyards in Larnage. The 2010 St.-Joseph Les Granits (870 cases produced) is a more flowery elegant feminine-styled effort than Les Varonnieres. A deep purple color is followed by sweet aromas of Chinese black... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate A Syrah wine from Rhone in France. 2010 2010 Chapoutier St Joseph les Granits Syrah 1500ml
Ruby-red. Sexy red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by dusty minerals and fresh rose. Impressively pure red fruit flavors display excellent sweetness but also strong minerality finishing with excellent cut and cling. Here s another 2006 that will be delicious young. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
Dark and beefy, with a note of game running through the black currant, coffee and tar flavors. This unwinds more on the finish, with a fine mineral thread running through currant and cocoa notes.
