100 % Syrah. Soil This wine comes from the GREFFIEUX situated at the foot of the hill of the HERMITAGE. The soil is characterised primarily by glacial alluvium terraces with a topsoil off pebbles and clay. Harvesting Hand harvesting at maturity. Natural proof above 13°C. Vinification The harvest, totally de-stemmed, is vinified in a small cement vat. Maceration is long and lasts for 5 to 6 weeks. Maturing All the wine is matured in new casks or in casks having matured wine once before. Maturing lasts 14 to 18 months. Natural clarification. Unfiltered and unfined. Tasting Colour : Deep red garnet with violet highlights during the first years. Noze : Ripe fruits during the early years. Mouth : Powerful tannins, mellow, stewed blackberries, can be kept for a considerable time.
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.
