What to Expect

Coming from a Granite hillside in the north of France's Rhone Valley, Hermitage is one of the world's greatest expressions of the Syrah grape. Blessed with a full southern exposition, the hill of Hermitage allows the vines to fully ripen, yet its poor soils stress the vines, reducing yields and ensuring a remarkable complexity in the finished wines. The wines tend to be medium to medium-full bodied with bright acidity and velvety tannins that are enmeshed in slightly gamey, olive scented fruit that recalls black raspberries and boysenberries.

Winemakers Notes

Very minerally driven style with a strong iron-tinged spine driving the red and black currant coffee loam and dark licorice notes. Tightly wound on the finish so cellar to let it stretch out. Best from 2010 through 2020.

Reviews

A clear deep ruby colored wine with a medium ruby rim.

Clean nose with youthful, medium+ intensity aromas of red berry jam, coffee, game, tobacco box, plum, blackberry, oak and mint.

A dry wine with medium+ acidity, medium+ balanced alcohol, medium+ body with rich texture and med+ tannins. Medium+ intensity flavors of toast, cedar, savory and smoky spices, anise and black pepper.

Medium+ length and concentration. A very complex yet polished wine that needs age. I am not a big fan of Hermitage, but this one makes you sit up.
