What to Expect

Coming from a Granite hillside in the north of France's Rhone Valley, Hermitage is one of the world's greatest expressions of the Syrah grape. Blessed with a full southern exposition, the hill of Hermitage allows the vines to fully ripen, yet its poor soils stress the vines, reducing yields and ensuring a remarkable complexity in the finished wines. The wines tend to be medium to medium-full bodied with bright acidity and velvety tannins that are enmeshed in slightly gamey, olive scented fruit that recalls black raspberries and boysenberries.

Winemakers Notes

Tasting Notes :The 2005 Ermitage l’Ermite probably needs 20 years of bottle age. It is incredibly tannic and tastes like liquid minerals infused with creme de cassis, blueberry, and melted licorice. Powerful, full-bodied, but excruciatingly backward, this huge, massive wine will last for 100 years.

Reviews

Dense purple to the rim, with notes of crushed rock, charcoal, roasted meats, and enormous quantities of blue and black fruits, this wine is almost painfully rich and thick, with mouthsearing levels of tannin and zesty acidity. Monumental!
