M. Chapoutier:
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.

A ripe, full-bodied style, with fig, creamed pear, McIntosh apple and melon flavors laced with sweetened butter and guided by a macadamia nut edge on the finish. Youthfully raw and a bit unbridled right now, but this should settle into itself with time. Best from 2015 through 2027.

There are 477 cases of the light gold-colored 2009 Ermitage Cuvee de lrsquo;Oree, which I would be happy to insert in a blind tasting against the worldrsquo;s greatest dry white wines, including Montrachet. The famous gout de petrol is there along with hints of citrus oil, wet steel, crushed rocks, quince, white currants, anise and honeysuckle. Very full, with off-the-charts intensity, this wine was fashioned from yields of 13 hectoliters per hectare (which is financial suicide) from 90 to 100-year old Marsanne vines. The result is an amazingly concentrated white wine that should drink well for 50+ years.

Perhaps the most surprising thing is how spectacular the 2002 whites are from Michel Chapoutier. Because of space limitations, I am only listing the numerical score for this wine, which is evolved, but exceptional for such a challenging vintage. As I... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Terrific, the 1999 Ermitage Cuvee de l'Oree is floral, with lots of elegance but not much weight or concentration. To be fair, it had just fermented dry before I arrived, so it needs some time on its lees and further barrel aging to fill out. It sho... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. The 1998 Ermitage Cuvee de l'Oree's explosive bouquet offers a liquid minerality, honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, and acacia flowers. Amazingly, the 100% new oak treatment has been totally absorbed.... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Marsanne wine from Rhone in France. 1998 Chapoutier Ermitage Cuvee de l'Oree 750ml
