M By Michael Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005
The 2005 has a dense plum/garnet color with some lightening at the edge. It develops beautifully with aeration, exhibiting notes of white chocolate, black currant, cedar, and spice box. A medium to full-bodied wine, spicy, with a distinctive earthiness almost reminiscent of a St.-Estephe from Bordeaux, the tannin management is impeccable, as the tannins are present but sweet. This wine seems to be relatively evolved but should last, given its impeccable balance, for 15-20 years.Robert Parkers' Wine Advocate[quite limited]
I carefully chose my vineyard site and planted the highest quality vine stock suited for the land, to produce a wine that can compete with the greatest in the world. Utilizing my 30 years of experience, I made M with the utmost care paid to maintaining the beauty and dignity of the grapes.
91 pts by WS. A beautiful example of a well crafted Napa valley cabernet.
Incredibly elegant cabernet. Pulled the cork on this and let it breath for a few hours. Dark color from the rim to the core. A very aromatic nose that fills the glass with leather, faint oak and dark fruit. In the mouth the wine has nice acidity which really helps balance the concentrated fruit flavors. Great finish and sweet youthful tannins. I wish more people made wine in this style...it's definitely a throwback to the era of more elegant Napa cabs.
