Lynfred Winery Fumé Blanc American 2007

Member Review by Bonnie J:

Beautiful color and clarity, but most important the taste! My first impression was fruit - a bit of pineapple and mild melon, but as the wine developed I picked up a wonderful sensation of -creaminess - is the word that comes to mind. Some SB can be overly grassy or herbaceous, but not this one. A really nice long finish with wonderful balance.

Founded by Fred and Lynn Koehler, in Roselle, Illinois in October, 1979, Lynfred Winery is the oldest and largest, continuously-operating, bonded winery in the state, producing over 50 varietals and 25000 case per year. On an acre of land once owned by Colonel Roselle Hough, Lynfred Winery started in a historic house originally built in 1912 by the Hattendorf family. The Koehlers restored the house and organized a cellar. The cellar walls, more than 18 inches thick, provide ideal temperature control for aging wines. In 1985, Lynfred's barrel-fermented chardonnay won the double gold medal at a Reno wine competition. In April, 2002 the old house became a private residence. The winery, connected by a vaulted barrel-aging tunnel, increased wine production and added storage facilities. A tasting room, gift shop and an elaborate and exclusive four-suite bed and breakfast were added. Read less
