Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Member Review by mral:

given my limited knowledge of wine (we moved to the bay area 2 1/2 years ago) the 2005 spottswoode estate cab is the best i have had. granted it is expensive, but this satiates the most important things i look for in a wine: big, creamy, fruity but with a soft finish. i tried a 2007 which was good but still a little too young. the 2005 was perfect and i didn't even have it with food. given the price point, this is clearly an indulgence, but until i know more about wine, i will have to pay up for bottles that i know i will love over & over again.

Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by Mary Weber Novak and her late husband, Dr. Jack Novak. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding. Today, two of Mary’s daughters, Beth and Lindy, work for the family winery that each year releases four very special wines: the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon and the recently-introduced Field Book Rhone. The Novak family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins. Each Spottswoode wine is known for its refined elegance, balance, and classic structure. Dedicated stewards of their property, the Novaks have farmed organically since 1985 and have pioneered the restoration of their local watershed. Read less

The 2005 Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits more restraint and delineation. It seems like a cooler climate wine compared to the more opulent 2004. It comes down to a matter of personal preference, but I liked the showiness and sensuality of the ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
