Not bad. A little earthy and dry on the finish. Not as smooth or as fruit forward as I like my Meritage blends. But not a bad wine. Read more

A good value for those looking for a more restrained, elegant Meritage blend. Very expressive on the nose with red currant fruit, vanilla, smoke, soil, and lightly herbaceous tomato leaf tones. There’s some backing wood spice here, but it’s well integrated and lends this quite the Bordelaise tone. Easy on entry then firming up some in the mouth. This is restrained and elegant with red and black raspberry fruit, accented with spicy oak tones and gentle suggestions of slightly medicinal herbs. The finish is bright and moderately long, with tannins that are slightly drying today but enough fruit balance them out nicely. Develops lovely complexity in the mouth and good aromatics on the finish. A subtle wine for the near term. 89pts

Tastes like a nice Bordeaux. Smoky, earth and leather on the nose follows through to the palette and is backed by perfect tannins and a peppery finish. Well balanced and a lingering finish. Thrilled to have this for $14 from my local wine store.

Liked this better than the sterling. Which I thought would be impossible!

Not a bad wine but this one just lacks any excitement.

Showing age on the nose. Truffle notes, forest floor, some cola, dried flowers, leaves and red fruits. On the palate, retains fair structure. Dusty red berry fruit with hints of pepper. Relaxed tannin and nicely balanced acid. Starting to weaken a bit though, short finish. Still tasty, but a tad watered down, so drink now. 84 pts

What's New in Booze - 9.2 out of 10 ripe red and black berry aromas and flavors, some black pepper, a hint of licorice and clove spice, firm tannins, and ample acidity. With the initial harshness replaced by a smooth texture and fairly long, ripe finish that might end up just a touch too hot. Enjoy this wine with a fatty ribeye, porterhouse or assortment of strong cheeses. Drink now through 2015.

Cedary cassis-scented aromas lead to a full-bodied, concentrated wine with supple tannins and a long, spicy finish.

Layer upon layer of luxurious, mouth-coating flavors are exposed with every sip; your tongue will never believe you when you tell it this bottle cost you less than $15! Echoing some of the best red Bordeaux, this California Meritage (rhymes with "heritage") is a Cabernet-based blend with the elegance and structure of a much more expensive wine. Lush and loaded with tobacco, spicebox, black currant and mocha, with a rich, velevety mouthfeel that warms you from head to toe. Beautiful table wine - serve with just about everything!

Offers hints of blackberry, raspberry and plum on the nose, with complex flavors of oak and plum that dominate on the very smooth, rich finish.
