(the largest single bottling of the winery, now entirely from Napa Valley fruit; just 10% new oak) Medium red. Cherry, redcurrant and floral aromas are complicated by a whiff of soil. Offers good sweetness and breadth to its spicy, bright red fruit flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a hint of mocha. The fruit is mostly from Game Farm Vineyard in Oakville, which McMahon says features "rocky Tuscan soil." This will be bottled in July. Our 2008 Napa Valley Sangiovese is a deep garnet color. Perfumed aromas of raspberries, black cherries, lilacs, and rose petals come forward on the nose. The Merlot supports a chewy currant core on the mid-palate, accented by chocolate and hints of sandalwood. An interesting mineral note appears on the back of the palate, and firm, silky tannins hold the wine together. Our Napa Valley Sangiovese is the deep color of garnets. The aromas of raspberries, black cherries, milk chocolate and rose petals come forward on the nose. The Merlot supports a plump blueberry core on the mid-palate, accented by chocolate and hints of orange. An interesting mineral note appears on the back of the palate, and firm, silky tannins hold the wine together. The finish is a lush thirty second trail of perfectly ripe, but not overripe, cherries. Drink through 2015.
