Luna Vineyards Sangiovese Napa Valley 2006

External Review by WineChateau.com:

Our 2006 Napa Valley Reserve Sangiovese is a rich garnet red. The aromas of black raspberries, red currants, and lavender scent the nose. On the palate, there is a juicy burst of cherry, accented by tealeaves and cocoa. The tannins are firm and velvety, seamlessly holding the wine together. The lush finish lingers with more sweet cherry, pomegranate, and dense, dark chocolate. This wine has an impressive ability to age for Sangiovese; it should be at its peak through 2017.

Walk through the wrought iron gate and enter another world. Drink in the rustic beauty of olive trees, towering poplars, and leafy oaks that landscape the grounds surrounding our estate's Italianate architecture. Be transported by our spectacular setting to another time, another place while enjoying every moment of the here and now that Luna Vineyards offers. When George Vare and Mike Moone first laid eyes on the Luna property in 1995, they instantly recognized the magic, and the amazing potential, of its estate vineyards. Plus, it was perfectly located along the Silverado Trail. So they bought the property and followed their dream, building a winery that paid tribute to the varietals that set Napa Valley apart. They also planted visionary varietals like Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese, which weren’t then well known in Napa Valley. Read less

Wine Tasting NotesOur Napa Valley Sangiovese is the deep color of garnets. The aromas of raspberries, black cherries, milk chocolate and rose petals come forward on the nose. The Merlot supports a plump blueberry core on the mid-palate, accented by chocolate and hints of orange. An interesting mineral note appears on the back of the palate, and firm, silky tannins hold the wine together. The finish is a lush thirty second trail of perfectly ripe, but not overripe, cherries. Drink through 2015.
