What to Expect
Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.
Winemakers Notes
[94 pts Robert Parker] As it often is Pira's Barolo Marenca is a thrilling wine. This layered sumptuous Barolo possesses generous plump fruit sweet spices menthol and new leather flavors with an expansive rich personality. The oak is well-integrated and the wine offers superb balance with tannins that finish big but polished. The Marenca is aged exclusively in 500-liter barrels.
Editorial Reviews
AWE blind tasting - nice jammy fruit, black fruits, black raspberry, a pretty fruit driven nose, with some nice stemmy herbal background tones, and touched of leather and camphor, a bit flaccid in the mouth, really doesn’t follow up the nice aromatics, the flavors gain some intensity but are low key if nice with authentic medicinal character juxtaposed against a smaller raspberry toned fruit, big tannins on the finish, 87-88
