What to Expect

Riesling is a chameleon of a grape, able to produce world class wines that range from bone dry to unctuously sweet. Germany is most closely associated with Riesling, where all styles are made and the range of flavors runs the gamut from steely and crisp with crunchy mineral-driven flavors to fresh lime, apple and peach flavored expressions - even rich honied, candied fruit tones in the great dessert wines.

Winemakers Notes

Notes on the Ludwig Sweetwater Vineyard Monterey County Riesling 2006 : WINEMAKER NOTES: Our Riesling is almost bone dry. This helps balance the wines abundant fruit with a nice amount of stone fruit and mineral character. The wine is wonderful with seafood or your favorite spicy noodle bowl but also can be enjoyed as a prelude to your next culinary opus.LUDWIG SWEETWATER VINEYARD MONTEREY COUNTY RIESLING 2006

Sounds tough - but it's not. All you have to do is put it in your cart and hit buy. The price on this wine surprises - it is hands down one of the top three dry Rieslings I've ever had. The bouquet is all pear and apricot with a hint of honeysuckle. On the palate it is dry (read: not sweet) with a lush mouth feel, nice minerality, and even a streak of good acid. (Which means it will pair well with food.) I say wow. What will you say?

This is a great, versatile Riesling. I was expecting dessert... most of my Riesling experiences have been too sweet for my taste. This is a great wine for pairing with appetizers, salad, even light pasta dishes. The nose boasts real fruit flavors, pears, orange rind, apricot and pineapple all wafting up to me and inviting me to dive in. Tastes of pears, oranges and pineapples tantalize the palette, and the finish is pleasant, not saccriney sweet like many Rieslings. For $13.50, you really can't go wrong with this wine! A great value!
