Lucien le Moine Echezeaux 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Echezeaux opens with a mysterious, seductive bouquet. The wine is much more focused and linear on the palate, where the early appeal of the aromatics gives way to an energetic expression of fruit. A mineral-drenched finish coats the palate with bright saline notes...94-96" WA 2/12 "Good medium red. Red fruits and a note of blood orange on the nose. Lovely lift and a touch of sweetness on the palate, showing beautiful balance already. Red berries are complemented by smoke and complex soil tones while retaining a juicy character. Builds slowly and steadily on the back end. Plenty of chewiness and structure here but this is almost surprisingly easy to taste today...93-95" IWC 1/12 "A restrained, cool and attractively if subtly spiced nose of primarily black pinot fruit and plum aromas is followed by rich, refined and intensely mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess a plenitude of dry extract that imparts a sappy and seductive texture to the mouth feel. There is an admirable level of concentration and I like the lovely balance. This isn't quite as complex as the best here but this is indisputably of grand cru quality...92-94" BH 04/12

It is a two people operation established in1999: "we came here because of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, we stayed because we discovered "La Côte d'Or" and its wines but also the Burgundians as People and Friends. Lucien Le Moine is our way of living the seasons in Burgundy and growing roots deep into that beautiful place where we chose to live. Mounir learned and worked in a Trappist Monastery where he discovered Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. He studied Viticulture and Oenology at the ENSAM Montpellier, than had a 6 years experience in different Wineries in Burgundy, other areas of France and California where he became fascinated by the "old way" of growing, vinificating and aging wines. One day he decided to push to the extreme everything he saw and experienced and created, with Rotem, a small cellar dedicated to the ideas of purity and typicity. Rotem comes from a cheese making family. She learned Agriculture both at the Technion and the ENESAD in Dijon and oriented her studies towards wine. At the end of her title she won a national prize from the French Academy of Agriculture for a study on the Côte d'Or than she participated in many Harvests in Burgundy and California. She joined Mounir in 1999 and they Started Lucien Le Moine together. Read less
