What to Expect

Pinot Noir: Responsible for some of the greatest wines on earth - the exhausted red wines of France's Burgundy region. Pinot Noir is a notoriously fickle grape that expresses its origins like no other. Reviews

Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 125, March/April 2006 ($139) Full red-ruby. Lively, scented aromas of minerals and rose petal. Dense, broad and impressively concentrated, with complex, penetrating flavors of redcurrant, minerals and flowers. Really clings to the palate on the back, finishing with big, broad, mouthcoating tannins and a saline nuance. This has a real whiplash of fruit. With 48 hours in the recorked bottle, this showed darker aromas of black fruits, licorice, leather and violet; a restrained sweetness; and a firm tannic spine without a trace of hardness.

Rating: 88-91 - As reviewed by The Wine Messenger in Issue 18, 2nd Quarter, 2005 An exceptionally ripe and spicy nose that displays mocha, plum, cassis and wood toast leads to strikingly concentrated and deep flavors that are mouth coating and serious, all wrapped in big and aggressive tannins. My score offers the benefit of the doubt as this is one dense wine but the tannins are not shy and the question is whether they will integrate with time?
