Lucien le Moine Cazetiers Gevrey Chambertin 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is an effortless, gracious wine. It is an elusive, intellectual Burgundy that engages all of the senses with its compelling, weightless personality. Floral notes flow through to the totally effortless finish. This is pure Cazetiers, and also one of my favorites in the lineup...93-95" WA 2/12 "Good medium red. Enticing aromas of redcurrant, crushed stone and mocha, plus a whiff of syrupy reduction. Suave, seamless and a bit youthfully subdued; more about penetration than volume. Finishes very long and smooth, with saline truffle and soil tones. With its austere minerality, this reminded me of a little Clos de Beze...92-94" IWC 1/12 "Don't Miss! Outstanding: A gentle hint of wood sets off riper and much more animale aromas of stone, fur, game and pungent Gevrey-style earth on the ripe cassis and black cherry scents. There is a wonderful sense of verve to the overtly powerful, intense and well-muscled flavors that culminate in a finish that offers a distinct contradiction as it's silky, refined and explosively long. A terrific example of the appellation that is forthrightly built to cellar...92-95" BH 04/12

It is a two people operation established in1999: "we came here because of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, we stayed because we discovered "La Côte d'Or" and its wines but also the Burgundians as People and Friends. Lucien Le Moine is our way of living the seasons in Burgundy and growing roots deep into that beautiful place where we chose to live. Mounir learned and worked in a Trappist Monastery where he discovered Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. He studied Viticulture and Oenology at the ENSAM Montpellier, than had a 6 years experience in different Wineries in Burgundy, other areas of France and California where he became fascinated by the "old way" of growing, vinificating and aging wines. One day he decided to push to the extreme everything he saw and experienced and created, with Rotem, a small cellar dedicated to the ideas of purity and typicity. Rotem comes from a cheese making family. She learned Agriculture both at the Technion and the ENESAD in Dijon and oriented her studies towards wine. At the end of her title she won a national prize from the French Academy of Agriculture for a study on the Côte d'Or than she participated in many Harvests in Burgundy and California. She joined Mounir in 1999 and they Started Lucien Le Moine together. Read less
