This offers lots of juicy, well-structured notes of garrigue, black cherry, plum, tobacco and olive tapenade, with a smoke- and licorice-filled finish. Ample grip and minerality leaves a rock-solid impression. Best from 2010 through 2025.
The Les Cailloux 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah and other permitted grape varieties) may be the finest regular cuvandeacute;e produced at this estate, even eclipsing the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape. A beautiful deep, plum/garnet color is followed by notes of ripe figs, licorice, tobacco leaf, sweet herbs, pepper and sumptuous quantities of kirsch and blacker fruits. Intense and full-bodied with silky tannins as well as a plump, sexy, voluptuous style, it begs for consumption now and over the next 10andndash;15 years.
The 2005 Les Cailloux Chateauneuf du Pape is a ripe, heady wine, dense ruby-colored, with plenty of garrigue, pepper, and kirsch notes intermixed with plenty of earthy undertones and underbrush. The wine is tannic, medium to full-bodied, and will probably benefit from 1ndash;3 years of bottle age and keep for 12ndash;15 years.
The 2000 Chacirc;teauneuf du Pape is pure sex in a bottle. A fragrant bouquet offers up aromas of spice box, cedar, pepper, jammy cherries, and a hint of plums and prunes. Dense, full-bodied, and evolved, but gorgeously succulent, this is a seamless, voluptuous Chacirc;teauneuf du Pape. Its fragrance, tactile mouthfeel, and explosive finish make for a sumptuous Chacirc;teauneuf du Pape to drink now and over the next 10ndash;12 years.
Reminiscent of his fabulous 1990, the deep, saturated ruby-hued, full-bodied, fragrant, flamboyant 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts loads of kirsch liqueur, black cherries, plums, figs, currants, and spice box as well as broad, expansive, spicy flavors. An expressive, silky, full-throttle finish possesses copious amounts of glycerin, alcohol, and fruit. Low acidity, huge flesh, and an up-front personality suggest drinking this 2003 upon release, and over the following 12ndash;14 years.
Bright ruby. Highly floral bouquet of red and dark berry preserves, potpourri, smoky minerals and white pepper. Tangy red berry flavors give way to deeper cherry and blackberry in the middle palate, with exotic floral pastille and Asian spice qualities adding complexity. Very suave wine with a seamless, silky texture and strong finishing sweetness, not to mention impressive clarity.
