Food Pairings for Luce Brunello
The 2003 harvest was of outstanding quality for all of the main grape varieties grown in Montalcino. Weather conditions were extremely favourable during the harvest period, and the grapes arrived in the cellar in sound condition and with high sugar levels. When the Sangiovese was drawn off, it immediately exhibited notable softness, with lively, full-fruited fragrances. This wine has a shimmering colour, luminous ruby, very dark, dense, and concentrated, right to the rim. The nose holds a rich a rich variety of aromas which explode on the nose, with immediate impressions of ripe fruit such as dried plum, blackberry, dark cherry, which then yield to delicate spice melded with floralnotes of sweet violets. The roundedness and depth on the nose are matched by the same qualities on the palate. A clean-edged, emphatic entrance leads to a judicious vein of crisp acidity and tannins that are noticeable but already quite supple and well integrated. The progression exhibits impressive length, with nuances of toasty oak and spicy black pepper and cinnamon along the way, which transmute into pungent notes of rhubarb and black liquorice on the finish.
