Lucca Paso Robles Courtney Benham 2007

Member Review by NaplesMeow:

Very impressive for its price point ($12.99 at Total Wine)! I love Paso Robles wines, and this one definitely has the extreme fruit flavor found in many of the more expensive wines in the region. It is not as yeast-y as the Paso wines I like the most, but I would happily pay twice what I paid for it. Intriguing, bright, and infinitely drinkable, this one will be making an appearance at every gathering I attend this Summer.

Courtney Benham is the proprietor and principal winemaker of Martin Ray winery (formerly Martini and Prati), located in the Russian River Valley in California, which he purchased in 2003. He grew up in a winemaking family in the San Joaquin Valley, and has dedicated his life to honing his craftsmanship. The winery itself dates back to the 19th century, established in 1881 as the Twin Fir winery, and became Martini and Prati in 1902. Since it was able to produce sacramental wines during the Prohibition (the only way to legally stay in business), it has the distinction of being the oldest winery to be in continuous operation in Sonoma. A line of signature wines with fruit sourced from Napa, Edna Valley and Stags Leap are labeled Courtney Benham, produced and sold as part of the Martin Ray portfolio.  Read less
