Luca Pinot Noir 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Beautiful medium-red color and aromas of wild strawberries, saddle leather and grilled nuts. A complex Pinot with notes of leather, spice, and cherry/raspberry confiture on the palate. Amazing aroma and pure Pinot flavor for such a young-vine Pinot. Pairs well with foods such as lamb chops, grilled salmon, roasted duck or chicken, and game birds. Pinot lovers may just go ahead and drink it all by itself!

Think pinots all have mild bouquets? Think again – this one, a boutique product from Laura Catena, grabs you with powerful aromas of apple peel, tanned leather and coffee grounds. Its pinot vines may be some of the highest in the world, at 4,700 feet! But the wine itself is light and citric, offset by a heavy dose of oak with a bitter note of burnt caramel. The flavors linger long enough, yet they could be more attractive. (AV 86, http://argovino.com/?p=1236)

The fruit for the 2008 Pinot Noir was sourced from a 15-acre parcel from the Adriana Vineyard made famous by Catena Zapata and aged in 30% new French oak. It displays lovely aromatics of raspberry and cherry, plenty of body, sweet, succulent flavors,... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Palish medium-red. High-toned aromas of candied raspberry, strawberry, smoky earth and orange peel. Sweet raspberry and strawberry flavors are supported by a firm core of acidity. Bright and silky red fruit-driven pinot with a light touch. Finishes w... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Pinot Noir wine from Mendoza in Argentina. 2008 Luca Pinot Noir 750ml
