Luca Malbec 2007
Luca is a winery founded by Laura Catena (of the prestigious Argentinian winemaking family), named for her son, in Mendoza, Argentina. The focus is on small batch, artisanal quality wines that showcase the individual terroirs of Mendoza, produced at a state-of-the-art facility. Luis Reginato is principal winemaker. Luca produces Chardonnay, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Malbec and the Beso de Dante Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
This is an awesome wine! Decanted it for about 90 minutes and was rewarded for my patience. :) Will definitely be purchasing more of this for the cellar. It is an inky purple color and full of luscious mouth-coating fruit. Really awesome.
92 points. This wine’s aroma is rich, creamy, and almost buttery, with very full, dark fruit tones, spice and a subtle minerality to it. A spin in the glass opens up pomegranate and licorice tones that make it both inviting and very interesting to experience. The palate is velvety, with a big, rich core of dark raspberries and violets. The fruit is perfectly ripe, and there is a juicy plum component and some spiced crème brûlée on the mid palate. There is a slightly fig-like flavor, and a good amount of kitchen spice and butter on the finish, which eventually lingers on the palate with a hint of cinnamon rolls. This wine has excellent structure and a ton of complexity that makes it a bit difficult to fully describe, but very easy to appreciate. Just beautiful, and a wine well worth trying. This is by Laura Catena, a member of the prolific Mendoza Catena Zapata family (father Nicolas, brother Ernesto). it is everything a Malbec should be. Pretty small lots - 500 cases a year. if you see some. grab it.

Really goes for the gusto and pulls it off with dark fig sauce melted purple licorice mocha fruitcake and crushed boysenberry and blueberry fruit all gliding along rich velvety tannins. Long mouthfilling finish. 93 Points Wine Spectator
Wine Tasting NotesIncredible color - could use in an inkwell!! Loads of spicy red fruit and black cherry cola aromas with notes of rose petal and cocoa. The red berry and black cherry flavors really pop on the palate as the wine has both good depth and very lively acidity that leads to an incredibly long finish. A bottom note of black licorice keeps the mouth watering, too! This one is a teeager at the moment, and should age very well (and won't talk back when you don't give it the car keys!) Pairs well with foods such as venison or wild game, steak, pork, all types of lamb, and medium cheeses. A very flexible wine due to its concentration and balance.
This is a great example of Mendoza Malbec. Incredible colorcould use it in an inkwell! Loads of spice and black cherry cola aromas with notes of cocoa. The berry flavors really pop on the palate as the wine has both good depth and very lively acidity that leads to an incredibly long finish. A bottom note of freshly brewed espresso keeps the mouth watering too.
