The distinctive qualities of each parcel are the result of great respect for nature. Louis Roederer’s philosophy is shared by Philippe Starck: both are engaged in a quest for authenticity.   The harvest from each parcel is pressed and vinified separately. Over the months, the wine is tasted and analysed by the oenologists; this provides them with an extensive aromatic palette that gives them a rich choice and enables them to develop blends under the watchful eye of the Cellar Master, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon. This quest for authenticity matches Philippe Starck’s desire to collaborate on the development of a unique, finely tuned, and authentic cuvée. They decided to draw inspiration from river wines to create a straightforward, medium-dry, terroir-based champagne. Consequently, every measure was taken on the south-facing parcels of Pinot noir to nurture grapes that would attain great maturity, in order to obtain an excellent fruit that would require very minor corrective measures. I must say that both my wife and I were quite unimpressed with Cristal. Dom Perignon has never let us down, but Cristal simply was not as smooth, flavorful, or enjoyable. Frankly, we prefer many lower-priced bottles than Dom to Cristal, which was, surprisingly, a severe disappointment that definitely did not live up to the tremendous hype.

Delicate and firm especially for 1995 offering dough and citrus on a light-bodied frame. Not the most complex today but should improve with time... Wine Spectator.

Firm and tightly wound this seems more like a 96 than a 95 without the superripe fruit. Spice citrus and berry aromas and flavors permeate the refined texture. Crisp finish. Austere but has length. Drink now through 2008. 1 400 cases made. BS Wine Spectator.

Great refinement shows in the subtle hazelnut, fruit, hay and vanilla aromas of this famous luxury cuvée. The palate is flavorful with lovely dry grape, peaches and cream, toasted nut, plum and flavors, and the mouthfeel is soft, lightly and gently f... Wine Enthusiast.
