Louis Roederer Cristal Rose Premier 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Color: Fine, regular bubbles, with a very persistent bead. Nose: Intense, fresh and very precise. The bouquet ranges across the entire spectrum of complex flavors, opening with scents of red berries (cherry), crystallized citrus peel and lightly roasted nuts, which after a few minutes airing in the glass is followed by aromas of ageing, such as almond and honey. Palate: An admirably rounded attack brings further proof of the intensity of aroma that is typical of the 2000 vintage. Scents of white flowers mingle with flavors of red berries, caramel and upside-down apple tart. The texture on the front palate has all the roundness, generosity and refinement that is expected of Louis Roederer. The supporting structure is vinous but not overly robust, with a delightful freshness that underscores the wines precision while creating an impression of lasting finesse. Overall assessment: A lush, refined and precise winemoderately powerful, exceptionally seductive and entirely characteristic of this classically ripe vintage.

The distinctive qualities of each parcel are the result of great respect for nature. Louis Roederer’s philosophy is shared by Philippe Starck: both are engaged in a quest for authenticity.   The harvest from each parcel is pressed and vinified separately. Over the months, the wine is tasted and analysed by the oenologists; this provides them with an extensive aromatic palette that gives them a rich choice and enables them to develop blends under the watchful eye of the Cellar Master, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon. This quest for authenticity matches Philippe Starck’s desire to collaborate on the development of a unique, finely tuned, and authentic cuvée. They decided to draw inspiration from river wines to create a straightforward, medium-dry, terroir-based champagne. Consequently, every measure was taken on the south-facing parcels of Pinot noir to nurture grapes that would attain great maturity, in order to obtain an excellent fruit that would require very minor corrective measures.
