A favourite amongst the rich and famous. Cristal is the jewel of the House of Louis Roederer, first created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II. This really is champagne at its finest, as inspiring today as it has always been; the embodiment of elegance, beauty and purity.Cristal is made according to the strictest criteria, based on a strict process of selection applying to the vintage, the cru, the village, the grapes and finally the wine. Only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from the Houses 10 most celebrated crus are used in the production of this legendary cuvee. Colour: Beautiful yellow in colour with burnished gold reflections. Bouquet: Intense nose of white flowers, citrus and red berries, followed by warmers notes of toast and wood.Taste: Ripe lush fruits (peaches) and toasty flavours. Dense fleshy structure. Powerful finish.Aged: An average of 5 years on lees, plus 6 months after disgorging.Grape Variety: 55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay. Serve: Aperitif, caviar, fish, lobst...
Roederer s 2002 Cristal is still in its infant, fresh stage. Subtle notes of pears, flowers, spices, mint, minerals and oak are woven into a cashmere-like frame of extraordinary grace and elegance. This beautifully-sculpted Champagne possesses notable clarity but with the additional depth of fruit that is characteristic of this vintage. It is a gorgeous, seductive Cristal of the highest level. In 2002, Cristal is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay with 10 grams of dosage. 20% of the wine was fermented in oak.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 98The purity of this wine is impressive. It has a straight line of mineral, flint and grapefruit running through it. Around this, there are layers of fresh apples, lime zest and a tight, taunt structure. Give it 4-5 years.Wine Tasting NotesAppearance: Brilliant yellow with light amber highlights. A beautiful mousse with fine cordon of persistent and regular bubbles.Nose: Intense and delicate. Revealing a clean and well-blended mixture of flavours of honey, cocoa, lightly toasted hazelnuts, candied citrus fruit without exuberance, but luxurious simplicity!Palate: A savoury explosion of ripe fruit on the attack, revealing red fruit, white chocolate, caramel and Danish pastry, typical of Cristal. Silky, concentrated texture, leaning on intense, powerful and vinous structure, but maintaining refinement. The palate builds up to attain a delicious sensation of well-blended harmony of flavours. A fresh finish with a hint of bitterness making it almost crunchy. All the exceptional characteristics of the 2002 vintage have literally been captured in this 2002 Cristal, which is generous and lush, revealing perfect balance between concentration and finesse, freshness and vinosity, intensity and refinement. In three words: proud, rich and luxurious.

Wine Advocate #162 (Dec 2005) One of the finest Champagnes I have ever brought to my lips, the 1999 Cristal bursts from the glass with fresh hazelnut and apple scents. Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish. Louis Roederer does not display a disgorgement date or consumer friendly lot number on its non-vintage Brut. This is regrettable as it has consistently been one of the finer bottlings in this category.
