What to Expect

Champagne is specifically a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France; every other sparkling is simply that, sparkling wine. Made to be aged for a few to many years, in many languages "Champagne" is synonymous with "party". When young, Champagne exhibits the fresh fruit tones of its "cepage", or blend. Usually based on a blend the features either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir as its main ingredient, Champagne's fruit can range from citrusy to orchard fruits and even red berries. The wine gains distinct yeasty notes from its secondary fermentation, the one that adds the fizz, which is typically described as recalling brioche or bread. As it ages Champagne tends to lose its obvious fruit, which is replaced by subtle nutty tones and subdued elements of dried fruits.

Winemakers Notes

Yellow appearance with burnished gold reflections. Intense nose of white flowers, citrus and red berries, followed by warmer whiffs of toast and wood. On the palate , ripe lush fruits (vine peaches) and toasty flavours. Dense, fleshy structure. Powerful finish.

Reviews

Lustrous pale gold appearance. Very expressive nose, with an intensely floral bouquet fragrant with scents of almonds, hazelnuts and white flowers. A generous, rounded, creamy attack followed by a touch of acidity to mark a finish of elegant persistence. Light, fresh, undoubtedly a wine of admirable magnitude with time. A wine in keeping with the Cristal tradition, bearing all the hallmarks of a timeless pedigree influenced by the slight austerity yet elegant vinosity of the 1994 vintage. Cuvee Cristal is the ideal accompaniment to foods of great delicacy, particularly caviar, fish and read more...

The jewel of the House, the vintage Cristal, the most beautiful expression of Champagne, was created in 1876 for the Tsar Alexander II.It remains faithful to the inspiration of origin, namely embodying elegance and purity. A gleaming pale gold color, with a fine foam and an elegant cord of bubbles. It has an eloquent, intense, delicate nose, with almond flavors, and constant fresh white flowers. It has a full, consistent attack, with remarkable balance, near gossamer-like smoothness, and an extraordinary length. Serve with the more refined dishes: caviar, fish, and shellfish such as lobster, read more...
