Louis Mousset Crozes-Hermitage 1986

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £5 from a wine merchant in Sussex who I think obtained it from a house clearance. Crozes-Hermitage is an AOC created in 1937 for wines north of Tain-Hermitage although wine production in the area goes back to before the Romans.90% of production is red wine made from the syrah grape although up to 15% of the white grapes marsanne and roussanne may be added.Louis Mousset started his negociant business in 1936 but his descendants sold out to the UVCDR co-operative group [otherwise known as Cellier des Dauphins] in 1996.I started my bottle the other evening with my supper of pasta Bolognese and I enjoyed it. It had the typical syrah taste of blackberry or cherry style fruit withy a hint of pepper and spice. However it is not quite as smooth or subtle as a Hermitage or Cote-Rotie.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
