What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

"Red Wine Cabernet Sauvignon by Louis Martini from Napa Valley, California. This winery, now owned by Gallo, has one of the great old Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in northern California at their disposal, the Monte Rosso Vineyard. Wine Skinny

This one got a resounding "Now we're talking" from at least one taster. Lush cassis and black cherry flavors are layered with smoke, coffee, toasty oak, and black pepper. Folds together nicely on the long, lingering finish. A nice value, too. Ready to drink now and over the next three or four years.

This dense, juicy cabernet sparkles like a black ruby, its simple lines cut by fresh and lively flavors. Solidly built and pleasing, this will go easily with most anything meaty. -W&S The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma possesses aromas of cedar, plum, and black cherries, a Rhone Valley-like garrigue character, sweet oak, and a medium-bodied, tart finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. -Wine Advocate
